What We Do

Bras for the Cause is committed to ensuring that all Iowans, uninsured or underinsured, have access to mammograms, cervical screenings and other related medical programs or projects.

Bras for the Cause does this by:

  • Raising awareness throughout the state that support is available to those who are in need of those medical services and, also, to the organizations which serve them;
  • Awarding monetary grants to organizations in need of funding for their projects and/or programs that are related to and compatible with the mission of Bras for the Cause and comply with the application guidelines;
  • Ensuring that money raised goes back into the community in which it was raised. Translated, that means all money stays in Iowa;
  • Raising funds through events, such as the annual Bras for the Cause Gala 2010, golf outings, and activities such as wrapping gifts at shopping malls at holidays, etc.;
  • Sponsoring and/or collaborating with other related, nonprofit organizations;
  • Reaching out to other Iowa communities interested in creating their own groups to fund projects and programs in their own backyards; and
  • Exchanging ideas and consulting nationally with groups that wish to emulate or build on what Bras for the Cause is doing in Iowa.

Having ambitiously worked to build a committed and generous donor base since its inception in 2007, Bras for the Cause has funded directed gifts and grants given ranging from $10,000 to $240,000. Organizations in need of support for their projects and/or programs are encouraged to apply for grants or contact us for sponsorships and collaborations.

The Board of Directors is committed to working with passion, integrity, trust and effectiveness, and plans to leave no stone unturned until every Iowan in need has access to mammograms and/or cervical screenings.
